Forging means the sudden non-cutting pressure-forming of metals by several to many tool beats between two tools under local change in the cross-sectional shape. Apart from a few exceptions all metals and metal-alloys can be used for forging. The type can be selected out of more than 2,500 steel varieties for the most economical use. Forging is meant when forming above room-temperature occurs, so the work-piece is heated or the work-piece is significantly heated by the forming. The process of forging includes the casting or rolling of the blank, hardening and tempering, and grinding. Compared with the casting the material remains in the solid state and is edited with hammer and anvil or with equipment, such as air hammers and presses. We also distinguish between forging and stamping.
